Plasma cells are a type of white blood cell. Normally, as a part of the immune system, plasma cells produce antibodies that help fight against disease and keep us healthy. In multiple myeloma, these plasma cells produce antibodies that are ineffective. Multiple myeloma occurs when the overgrowth of plasma cells takes place in multiple areas of the bone marrow. Bone marrow is the soft spongy tissue in the middle part of the bone where blood cells are formed. The average age of those receiving a diagnosis of multiple myeloma is 65 years. In the United States, there are about 16,000 new cases of multiple myeloma per year. I had a bad wreck and few years ago and had a head trauma. I forgot a bunch of stuff and became fearful of certain situations. So I started some OCD behaviors like checking door locks multiple times and taking showers a couple times a day. I personally don't think these are bad things. Children of abuse may develop OCD patterns to cope with the crazy drama that happens to them. Compulsive neatness is a behavior and checking and rechecking locks and repeated handwashing are symptoms of OCD. One of the things I do is rinse my eyes and nose with clean water several times a day. It keeps the pollen from taking a strong hold in my body. It is named after Dr. Thomas Addison, who discovered it in 1849. Addison's disease occurs when the body is not able to make enough of the hormones cortisol and/or aldosterone.
